Amongst the various challenges facing the megalopolis of Tokyo and its population of more than 30 million people is the challenge of the “flow of goods.” Sometimes referred to as “unknown territory,” this issue is hard to even assess, but this report, the “Tokyo Streamlining Initiative,” tackles Tokyo logistical challenges head-on. The issue of logistics is an economic system issue involving “distribution” as well as a transportation issue involving “cargo vehicles.” Streamlining distribution will strengthen Tokyo’s basic infrastructure in terms of both the economy and daily living; while streamlining the flow of cargo vehicles will contribute to cleaner air and a quieter environment within Tokyo. Improving Tokyo’s appeal requires a sound understanding of how goods currently “flow” in Tokyo as well as how this flow can be made “cleaner.”
